Axelor is making two strategic moves simultaneously in September 2026: the French open source ERP vendor has made its natively integrated agentic AI layer available since 19 June 2026, while its Casablanca office (opened in 2022) is scaling up to become the company’s regional hub for Francophone Africa (La Vie Éco).
An Open Source ERP That Has Started to Act
Axelor has built its reputation on the open source ERP segment, targeting mid-sized companies and public sector organisations. The September announcement marks a technology inflection point, as stated by Laith Jubair, Axelor’s president: “ERPs are entering a new generation. For twenty years, these systems recorded what had happened. They are now starting to act. This is a fundamental change, not simply an additional feature.”
In practice, Axelor’s agentic ERP lets users trigger business actions directly through natural language: create a quote, chase a customer, add a field to a view. Domain-specific agents (procurement, HR, production, quality) can collaborate with each other to orchestrate multi-step processes without administrator intervention.
What This Means for IT Leaders Evaluating Axelor
Three practical points for decision-makers:
Actions, not answers. Where a conventional copilot produces suggested text, Axelor’s agents execute operations directly inside the ERP, within the boundaries of configured permissions and workflows. The claimed benefit: fewer back-and-forth exchanges between end users and administrators for routine configuration and follow-up tasks.
Data sovereignty preserved. The platform natively supports six LLM providers: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, Ollama, and a custom connector. A 100% on-premise deployment is possible via Ollama for organisations subject to GDPR or operating in high-confidentiality sectors (healthcare, defence, public administration). This is a meaningful differentiator against proprietary ERP vendors whose AI is hosted by default on the vendor’s infrastructure, with no alternative.
Open source and No-Code combined. Axelor embeds AI into its existing No-Code studio, making it possible to “create or evolve complete business applications by describing your needs in plain language, without writing a single line of code,” according to the official product page. The expected outcome: faster adoption by business teams, with less dependency on IT for minor updates.
Casablanca as a Gateway into Francophone Africa
Geographically, Axelor is restructuring its Moroccan office to serve as a commercial centre of gravity across Francophone Africa. Hakim Kamar-Eddine, Managing Director of Axelor Morocco, sets out the ambition: “Accelerate our presence with Moroccan institutions and make Casablanca a major hub for our growth in Francophone Africa.”
The local team covers platform development, client project delivery, integrator partner support, and business development — Morocco first, then the broader Francophone Africa region. Recruitment is under way in development and customer support functions.
The timing is favourable: several sub-Saharan Francophone countries are running programmes to modernise public administration and industrial SME management, creating structural demand for localised, accessible ERP solutions.
What to Watch
The agentic AI availability announcement dates from June 2026, meaning Axelor is in its first months of real-world deployment. Field feedback on day-to-day agent use — reliability of automated actions, user learning curves, integration with existing workflows — is not yet publicly documented. For an IT leader evaluating Axelor, the right moment for a proof of concept that includes the AI layer would be the first quarter of 2027, when a handful of client references should be available.
On the geographic side, Axelor’s Africa strategy is still being built. The next few months will show whether the vendor secures partnerships with local integrators and wins its first institutional references in Morocco and then the Francophone sub-Saharan countries.
