Sage announced on October 1, 2026 the acquisition of Paperless Environments, a company headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, specializing in accounts payable automation, document management, and subcontractor compliance for the construction industry. This marks the British software vendor’s second construction-focused acquisition in under two months (official Sage press release). Financial terms were not disclosed.
Who Is Paperless Environments
Founded in 2001 by Seth Dawson, then a CFO at a civil engineering firm, Paperless Environments began as an in-house solution before evolving into a commercial product. The company now serves more than 1,400 clients across the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Its platform addresses three critical needs for contractors:
- Vendor invoice validation: automated checks against ERP data and project purchasing rules
- Project document management: approval workflows and archiving for contractual and operational documents
- Subcontractor compliance: tracking certifications, insurance, and legal documentation required from every party on a project
Paperless had already been a long-standing Sage partner, with its product marketed under the “Sage Paperless Construction” brand and natively integrated into Sage Intacct Construction, Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate, and Sage 100 Contractor.
Second Piece of an Accelerating Construction Strategy
This acquisition follows Sage’s purchase of Bangert in August 2026, an AI-powered onboarding specialist for Sage Intacct Construction. In the space of two months, Sage has assembled a vertical stack for construction: Bangert delivers AI-assisted implementation support, Paperless delivers day-to-day automation of financial and compliance workflows.
Dan Miller, EVP Financials & ERP at Sage, captured the core challenge: contractors “shouldn’t have to manually assemble critical information from their finance, project, and field teams” (CPA Practice Advisor). Bringing a previously separate solution natively into the platform is a direct answer to that problem — removing the seam between the jobsite and the back office.
What This Means for Construction CFOs and IT Leaders
For companies already running Sage Intacct Construction, Sage 300 CRE, or Sage 100 Contractor, the immediate question is about the product roadmap. Paperless Environments was until now a separately licensed add-on module. Its absorption into Sage’s portfolio opens two likely scenarios: convergence into an included module within existing licenses, or a bundled upgrade at negotiated pricing.
For construction firms not yet using Sage, this double acquisition signals ambition: to compete head-on with integrated vertical suites like Procore, Trimble, or Oracle Construction on the basis of functional completeness. Sage remains at its core a financial ERP; the open question is how far up the operational construction stack it intends to climb.
Seth Dawson’s profile is also telling. As a founder who built the tool to solve his own problems as a field CFO, his statement on joining Sage is pointed: “Joining Sage gives us the opportunity to bring this experience to more customers and play a bigger role in the future of construction technology.” (erp.today)
What to Watch Over the Coming Months
Three developments merit close attention:
Bangert + Paperless integration. Sage now holds two complementary acquisitions: one covering AI-driven onboarding (Bangert), the other covering daily financial and compliance automation (Paperless). How coherently they are woven into Sage Intacct Construction will be a key indicator of the vertical strategy’s maturity.
Pricing model. 1,400 clients currently use Paperless as an add-on module. Full absorption into Sage Intacct licenses would be a strong competitive argument against Procore; maintaining separate pricing would signal a minimal integration.
Ecosystem response. Sage construction partners will need to reposition their service offerings as capabilities previously delivered through third-party modules become native — a dynamic familiar to any specialist reseller in a maturing vertical.
