Sage X3 2026-R1: E-Invoicing Compliance Update for Mid-Market Companies

Sage released X3 2026-R1 on 26 June 2026 with enhanced e-invoicing for France, Belgium, Germany and Spain. What finance and IT leaders need to act on before the September 2026 deadline.

Sage X3 2026-R1: E-Invoicing Compliance Update for Mid-Market Companies

Sage released Sage X3 2026-R1 on 26 June 2026, strengthening the full e-invoicing stack — issuance, reception and flow monitoring (Arcanes, certified Sage partner, 26 June 2026). The update lands 63 days before France’s mandatory e-invoicing issuance deadline for large enterprises and mid-market companies (1 September 2026), and includes compliance updates for Belgium, Germany and Spain in the same package.

Context: A Regulatory Deadline That Is Not Moving

France’s mandatory e-invoicing reform (RFE) sets two waves of obligations. From 1 September 2026, all French VAT-registered businesses must be able to receive structured electronic invoices via a certified intermediary platform (PDP) or the Public Invoicing Portal (PPF). Issuance and e-reporting become mandatory on that same date for large enterprises and mid-market companies (Sage France). SMEs get an additional year until 1 September 2027.

Sage aligned both its ERP lines to this timeline: Sage 100 v12.20 was released on 1 June 2026 for SMEs, while Sage X3 2026-R1 targets mid-market and enterprise customers with a broader functional scope.

What 2026-R1 Delivers

Direct connection to certified platforms. 2026-R1 lets companies register directly from within Sage X3 on the Sage Approved Platform (Sage Network) in production mode, linked to France’s public invoicing directory. A Sage PA test environment is available to validate all flows without sending live data to the official platform — an essential prerequisite for qualifying configurations before go-live (CPIO, June 2026).

Stronger flow monitoring. From the issuance dashboard, users can now resubmit failed invoices to Sage Network or the Tenor agent, with automatic error diagnostics. Payment status synchronisation (France) works across all connected platforms including Sage Network. Bulk document loading via AP Automation is also available in this release.

Formal rejection handling for incoming invoices. Suppliers can now formally reject an incoming invoice before a purchase order is created — streamlining dispute management upstream and preventing accounting module pollution from erroneous documents. Business partner electronic address codes have been updated to ensure correct routing.

Multi-country compliance. 2026-R1 includes automated compliance updates for Belgium, France, Germany and Spain, with improvements to inbound and outbound invoice mapping (CPIO, June 2026).

What IT and Finance Leaders Need to Do Now

The qualification window is short. With general availability on 26 June and the regulatory deadline on 1 September, project teams have under two months to deploy 2026-R1 in a test environment, train accounting staff and validate e-reporting flows with their chosen certified platform. Sage X3 integrators are in high demand — plan now, not in August.

Sage Network is not the only option. Sage X3 2026-R1 integrates natively with Sage Network (Sage’s own certified PDP), but the architecture supports other approved platforms. This choice affects per-invoice running costs and the depth of integration with accounting and commercial modules. Companies with high invoice volumes should cost both options before committing.

Issuance is the critical dependency. The reception obligation is technically simpler to satisfy (passive inbound flow). It is issuance that requires process redesign: document numbering, PDF/A-3 or structured XML format, lifecycle status management, credit note and deposit use cases. Teams that have not yet mapped their issuance use cases have two months left to do so.

What to Watch Next

Sage has announced a 2026-R2 with AI-powered agents and AI-fed dashboards, prioritised for cloud and SaaS customers (Arcanes, 26 June 2026). 2026-R2 should also cover additional issuance use cases — confirm the scope with your integrator before scheduling the next version upgrade.

For companies operating in Belgium or Germany, the multi-country compliance features in 2026-R1 are immediately actionable: the UBL mapping updates for those countries are bundled in the same package as the France-specific changes.
