Odoo unveiled version 20 of its ERP on 24 September 2026 during the opening keynote of Odoo Experience at Brussels Expo (OBS Solutions, 25 September 2026). The core innovation is structural: AI agents that execute sequences of business tasks on plain-language commands, with no technical configuration required. For Belgian SMEs, version 20 also adds several long-awaited features simultaneously: automated Dimona declarations, flexi-job PC 302 support, PISP supplier payments, and qualified itsme signature.
Background
Odoo was founded in Liège in 2005, and it is from its Belgian headquarters that each annual release is announced to the global community. Version 20 marks a paradigm shift: the ERP stops being a system users navigate and becomes an orchestrator they give instructions to. Describe in plain language what needs to happen, the agent presents its action plan, then executes. Documented examples include: confirming orders, assigning leads, starting projects, creating or updating records from a PDF.
The MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration also enables external AI tools to connect to the Odoo database while respecting existing access rights. The signal is clear: Odoo is not isolating its AI in a separate module — it is making AI the primary interaction layer across the entire system.
Impact for Belgian SMEs
AI Agents: What Changes Day-to-Day
The accounting agent answers questions about outstanding receivables and cashflow, and produces a summary with recommendations when discrepancies are detected. In production, the Gantt interface reconfigures itself and manufacturing orders are rescheduled with or without buffer. In procurement, min/max thresholds are proposed automatically based on demand history, desired coverage lead time, and order frequency. All of this without leaving the ERP or opening a separate console.
An important caveat: all AI features in version 20 consume IAP credits, Odoo’s paid-services system. The price per credit was not published at launch (OBS Solutions).
Dimona, Flexi-Jobs and PISP: Immediate Value
For Belgian SMEs, the most concrete gains are in payroll and payments:
- Automated Dimona: ONSS declarations are processed directly from the ERP, eliminating manual re-entry.
- Flexi-jobs PC 302: the payslip calculation automatically incorporates the 7.67% holiday pay and 28% employer contribution, in line with the obligations of joint committee 302 (OBS Solutions).
- PISP (Payment Initiation Service Provider): supplier invoices can be paid directly from Odoo, individually or in batch, via a direct bank connection. Participating Belgian banks have not yet been listed publicly.
- itsme in Sign: qualified electronic signature via itsme is now natively supported for contractual documents.
- GLN codes: delivery addresses now support GLN codes for Peppol exchanges, useful for SMEs subject to mandatory B2B e-invoicing since January 2026.
Field Service Merged with Planning
The standalone Field Service application disappears in version 20. Field operations are now managed within the Planning application, with a live technician map, Gantt-based travel time management, and an offline mode for sites without connectivity. Travel expenses can be billed by distance or at a fixed rate.
What to Watch
Three points deserve close attention before planning a migration to Odoo 20.
First, AI credit costs: no IAP pricing grid has been published for version 20. SMEs looking to budget heavy agent usage will need to wait for their Odoo partners to publish real consumption estimates.
Second, the PISP bank list: while direct bank connectivity is a compelling argument, its effective scope will depend on which Belgian institutions have implemented the interface. Verify compatibility with your primary bank before making PISP a migration criterion.
Third, the migration window: since April 2026, Odoo charges a 25% surcharge on Enterprise contracts for versions older than the three most recent releases (OBS Solutions). Version 17 is now out of support. Companies running v17 or earlier have a direct pricing incentive to migrate — but an Odoo migration takes months to plan: auditing the current version, inventorying customisations, cleaning data, and setting up a test environment.
