Unit4 announced on 6 October 2026 the acquisition of Napta, a Paris-based resource and skills management platform founded in 2018 (Consultancy.nl, 7 October 2026). For the Utrecht-headquartered ERP vendor, this is not merely a global strategic move — it directly strengthens its position on its home market. Napta counts PwC, RSM and Grant Thornton among its clients, three networks whose Dutch and Belgian entities rank among Europe’s most active in project staffing.
Context: Unit4, the Reference ERP for Benelux Professional Services
Unit4 is a Dutch company. Its headquarters are in Utrecht; its ERPx product targets professional services firms, public sector organisations, and higher education institutions. With more than 4,700 clients worldwide and €455 million in revenue in 2025 (ibid.), the vendor holds a reference position across the Benelux region for consulting firms, engineering companies, and public-sector bodies. Dutch municipalities are among its flagship deployments — giving it deep local roots that US or German ERP vendors struggle to match in the region.
Napta, for its part, addresses a problem that general-purpose ERPs — Unit4 included — handle poorly: fine-grained resource allocation by skills. Matching the right person to the right project, measuring the gap between available skill sets and projected demand, anticipating bench periods, and reducing unallocated time all require a dedicated functional layer that most ERPs leave to disconnected third-party tools. Napta operates in over 70 countries with around 200 client organisations (ibid.). The Napta brand and its open, multi-platform integration model are retained. Arnaud Caldichoury, co-founder and CEO, stays in post.
Concrete Impact for Benelux Services Firms
For existing Unit4 clients in the Netherlands and Belgium, the signal is structural. Simon Paris, Unit4’s CEO, put it plainly: “The future of services businesses revolves around people and skills” (ibid.). The stated goal is to create a data flow between Napta’s capabilities and ERPx’s project, finance, and HR modules. In practice, this opens the door to staffing decisions driven directly from within the ERP, removing the disconnect between project management and HR. For a mid-sized Dutch consulting firm — 50 to 500 consultants — this means replacing spreadsheet exports with real-time planning of available resources and skills.
For Benelux companies using Napta alongside a different ERP — AFAS Profit, Exact Online, or SAP — the decision to preserve Napta’s open integration model is reassuring in the short term. Existing integrations remain intact. The medium-term risk: if Unit4 accelerates native integration with ERPx, Napta’s roadmap could progressively favour Unit4 customers at the expense of users on other platforms. A point worth monitoring at the next contract renewal.
For services firms currently evaluating an ERP in the Benelux, this acquisition strengthens Unit4’s proposition. Compared to AFAS — the leading choice for Dutch SMEs — and Exact Online on the accounting side, Unit4 now differentiates itself on the consulting and IT services segment with a stack that natively covers skills management. An ERP spanning project delivery, finance, HR, and resource management in a coherent architecture reduces integration costs and maintenance complexity. For services businesses where 70 to 80 percent of costs are people costs, that is a substantive argument.
What to Watch
The technical depth of the integration between Napta and ERPx will be the true test over the next twelve to eighteen months. No timeline has been shared and no transaction value disclosed. In the Benelux specifically, two questions stand out: will Unit4 package ERPx and Napta together in an offer tailored to the Dutch market, and how will local implementation partners incorporate this new layer into their proposals? Dutch municipalities already on Unit4 could also benefit from the skills layer for workforce management — a public-sector use case Napta has not yet prominently addressed.
